11th Ave Parking Plan Nixed

11th Ave Parking Plan Nixed

As lostinbrooklyn mentioned in the comments, the DOT's plan to create angled parking spaces on 11th Avenue between 19th Street and Prospect Park Southwest was voted down. In fact, it was so universally despised that the plan was torn up! However, CB7 has asked the DOT to consider other alternatives to create a safer street, so we'll see what they come up with next.

Jeremy Laufer, District Manager of Community Board 7, has this report from the meeting:

Many residents came out to voice their displeasure with the plan for a multitude of reasons. The DOT representative let us know that DOT will not move forward with the changes if the community was against it and, at the end of the meeting, she symbolically tore up with plan.

Our Committee shared the community's concerns about public safety, but also agreed this this parking plan was not the right way to approach the problem.

Our Committee voted on two motions regarding 11th Avenue last night:
The first was a motion to deny the parking plan which was presented to us.

The second was to request DOT to re-examine 11th Avenue to determine if there are other ways to improve vehicular/pedestrian safety without changing the parking to angle parking.

Both motions passed committee and will be sent to the full board to vote on the evening of May 18.
