Last Friday night around 6:00pm a 58 year old woman was attacked on the corner of Minna and Dahill. A man grabbed her from behind, punched her in the face and took her purse. He ran off into a waiting car, where they took off down Dahill. It was too dark and she did not catch the make of the car.
The police responded, and this is what her daughter posted on a neighborhood Yahoo Group: "[it seems that] the criminals must have been driving around waiting for the right person or opportunity. They must have spotted her on my street, then driven down to the corner where one jumped out and attacked.
The corner of Minna and Dahill is well lit - in fact there is a fast food parking lot with very bright lighting so much so that my mother's attacker was backlit to the point where she had a hard time getting a good look at him.
My mother screamed for help and no one in the surrounding buildings - there are two coop buildings there, as well as houses across the street - responded in any way. That corner usually has a lot of foot traffic because of the bus and train stations but because of the rain, no one was around at that particular time even though it was a prime commuter hour.
I urge you all, my neighbors, to keep alert and please contact the police if you hear anything. My mom has lived in some rough neighborhoods in NYC without incident and she can't believe that she was attacked and mugged here on our lovely street.
You all have wives and daughters and friends that walk around to go to work or the store or the park at all times during the day. This should not become a target area for this type of crime. Please spread the word about this incident and stay safe."
So to recap the specifics:
When - last Friday evening, sometime around 6:10pm
Where - on the sidewalk right outside of 36 Dahill
About the attackers - the mugger is short - about 5'6" and wearing dark clothing, his accomplice drives a small dark car and pulled up to the sidewalk next to the crosswalk on Minna and Dahill while the other attacked.
If you saw anything at all that could help find the attackers, please contact the 66th precinct, Det. Welch at 718 851-5603.
And please - please - let's keep an eye out for one another!
