A New Public K-8 Proposed on Coney

A New Public K-8 Proposed on Coney

Thanks to CB14, we now know: a new, 735 seat public elementary and middle school has been proposed by the school construction authority for Coney Island Avenue between Turner, Hinckley places and East 8th street. It is just north of the KFC on the West side of Coney, across from where the unfinished construction site is.

There will be a public hearing on November 23, 2010 at 6pm at the AMICO Senior Center, 5901 13th Avenue, 3rd Floor (entrance on 59th street), see below.

This school will be in District 22, which covers only parts of Kensington and all of Ditmas Park (see map at CB14 site). It will also have the luxury of being in the furthestmost corner of Councilmember Eugene's district, while also being in CB12, which covers Kensington and Borough Park. It will also be patrolled by the 66th Precinct. Both the CB12 and Precinct lines go down Coney Island Avenue.

For those of you not so familiar with local politics - if we want this school to happen there (and it would be a perfect spot for a school, and just think of what it would/could do for revitalizing CIA!) we need to be at that meeting in support of the school.Or at least express your thoughts by writing to your community board - CB12.

If you care about overcrowding at our current schools, and feel that this would be a great place for a school, please, please, speak up!
