NEW YORK, NY (October 1, 2026) — As horror and thriller fans prepare for the Halloween season, the independent psychological thriller The Luring has passed 1.5 million views on the Indie Rights Movies For Free YouTube channel, just over two years after its June 2024 release.
Written and directed by Christopher Wells, The Luring is a dark psychological thriller, with a midnight movie feel, about trauma, narcissistic manipulation, and gaslighting. Garrett, haunted by a lost memory, brings his devoted girlfriend Claire to his family's Vermont vacation home, where an unspeakable act took place. But Garrett is hiding why he really came, and Claire is plagued by nightmares that blur with reality. Is a presence in the house warning her, or manipulating her too? The Luring is a reminder that escaping a nightmare only means you are still in one.
Viewers are searching for unusual, off-the-beaten-path films that break from the formulaic, big-budget playbook, and YouTube gives independent filmmakers a way to reach them without a major studio marketing campaign. More than two years after its release, viewers are still rediscovering The Luring, a sign that audiences are hungry for something a little weird.
"I made this film under a tight deadline because my family's small vacation house was being sold," said Wells. "I decided against fake blood because it could stain the interior and jeopardize the sale, so I had to find other ways to disturb and entertain my audience. Seeing 1.5 million views suggests people want something a little weird and ambiguous, not just the usual formula."
The Luring stars Rick Irwin, Michaela Sprague, Dan Berkey, Henry Gagliardi, Molly Fahey, and Jake Katzman. The film is distributed in partnership with Indie Rights, an independent distributor known for giving creator-driven cinema a global footprint.
