Alex sends over a scary account from a friend who was assaulted and robbed on Avenue F between East 5th Street and Ocean Parkway this past Sunday around 2:30am:
Some guy(s), without any warning, hit him in the face with a baseball bat and THEN asked for his wallet. My friend, bleeding from his face and eye at this point, threw them the wallet. Amazingly he was able to get up and make his way home. He is in the hospital now, in the intensive care unit.
He's going to be okay, but they are hoping for any information someone might have to help catch the attackers. If you noticed anything, please contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS, text "TIP577" (plus your message) to "CRIMES" (274637), or submit a tip online.
This is an unfortunate reminder that as the weather gets warmer, violent crimes tend to increase, so be careful when you're out late: be aware of your surroundings, try to walk on well-lit and busy streets, and trust your instincts--if a situation feels strange, don't be embarrassed, just call the police and try to head someplace safe.
