Attempted Rapist Still on the Loose

After yet another attempted rape in the area, residents are wondering what the 72nd Precinct is doing to protect the neighborhood.

On Friday, August 26, at about 8:45pm, a 28-year-old woman was walking home from the Prospect Avenue subway station, and as she neared Prospect and Sixth Avenues, a man grabbed her from behind and tried to sexually assault her, the Booklyn Paper reports. She was able to escape without injury, but the creep got away.

Police believe it's the same man who has tried to attack four other women in the area, including the assault that was caught on the security camera of neighbor Bo Samajopolos in March.

But Samajopolos, for one, doesn't think the precinct is doing enough to stop these attacks. "All the cops did was put out fliers telling us what we should do," he tells the Paper, referring to the poster pictured above. "But they should be the ones protecting us!"

Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto Crime Stoppers' website or by texting their tips to CRIMES (274637), then enter TIP577. Police say all calls are kept strictly confidential.
