Starting in April, one of the worst bus lines in the city will be getting more buses to help improve its schedule. A report released last month by Council Members Brad Lander and Sara M. González and Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez found that less than half of the the B61 buses arrived within an acceptable time frame during rush hour. The MTA voted yesterday to add buses to the line during the evening rush hour.
“I am happy to see that the MTA is listening to the people and taking this important first step to improve the B61 bus,” said Lander. “We look forward to working with the agency to address other concerns raised in our report, such as overcrowding and long waits during morning rush hour, buses that are skipping stops, and the need for real time bus arrival information for B61 riders.”
The changes will hopefully improve wait times and decrease overcrowding, but we'll have to wait until spring to see if it's enough.
