And just like that, the biggest shopping weekend of the year is upon us. It starts out today with Black Friday, continues tomorrow as American Express tries to persuade people to shop locally with Small Business Saturday, and then Cyber Monday extends it into the workweek.
There was some heated discussion on a Kensington Facebook group this week about whether shoppers should boycott stores that are open on Thanksgiving day. If you read the paper, you may be familiar with P.C. Richard's new annual ad that explains that they were not open on Thursday out of respect to family values, and it seems some other stores feel the same.
And then of course there's opposition to the rampant consumerism that takes place today, which is why more and more people are observing it as Buy Nothing Day.
