Key Food on 11th Avenue closing it's doors.

I have to say it is definitely going to cause a hardship in the neighborhood as while the KF on 11th was usually understocked on sales items, they did deliver and we have many older people in the neighborhood who physically cannot schlep cans up to their 3rd floor walk up.  Taking a cab to Pathmark, ShopRite and Fairway doesn't address that problem. Hello Fresh Direct - oh wait - our aging population is already making choices between Friskies and half the medication they really need - so they can't afford Fresh Direct.  Food Town you say?   Yuck.  

But more to the crux of the matter, until a friend of mine just called and gave me the same story I encountered, I was going to just let it go - I was doing a last lap around KeyFood at 9 AM - 20% off everything - so I mapped out my game plan to save a few pennies with my circular in hand, showed up early, filled my wagonS with items which were posted to the KeyFood online website listed specifically for Prospect Avenue - I figured between the 20% off and the sales I'd squeeze out a movie for the grandkids.  I push my incredibly heavy wagons to the front and as the stuff starts to ring I notice none of the prices are as listed in the circular online listed for that location.  Oh wait, THEN they announce to me, not to everyone - that there will be no circular sales and no coupons!  How about posting that online instead of posting the circular specifically listing the Prospect Avenue address?  Rather then get raped by KF one last time I dumped the wagon and walked out.  They've been giving it to us for years with a delivery charge - even when you are spending over $100, which I normally do with 4 children and 3 grandchildren.  between the fee and the tip, it usually costs around $10 for the privilege of delivery - a dollar short of a round trip to another supermarket. I think it was heinous of the powers that be to decide not to participate in a sale they advertised and wait until you get to the register to find out that cereal listed 4 for whatever 6 or 10, can't remember will cost you about 19.47 even with 20% off.  Hell of a difference.  Took more over 90 minutes to fill two baskets and I walked out without a thing.

It doesn't escape me that KeyFood in other areas have always offered 'shop online" service with delivery - they do it in Coney Island and in Bay Ridge and it works perfectly - maybe things only work well when you pay less rent?  Not sure.  But here where we sweat to make the rent, we have to waste an hour tooling around and it's so far away the delivery could very well make it home before you do!  

Just venting.   This is why people from Staten Island walk into a Brooklyn supermarket and then decided against any purchase.  My son is one of them - he always looks at the bottom of my milk containers to profess the lack of desire for the complimentary mold ring on the bottom of the milk.   And Jersey people, wouldn't even walk in - lighting stinks, the floors are dirty, the wagons are rusted and beat up.  I sometimes shop in Jersey - big beautiful clean aisles well stocked and well attended, online shopping, help not only to your car but in LOADING IT!   That's why people tip - for the conveniences offered...
