Dan Donovan, the sole Republican in New York City’s congressional delegation and open supporter of President Donald Trump, is locked in a surprisingly close race with his Democratic challenger in a traditionally conservative district. A recent New York Times poll put him just four points ahead of Rose, a former assistant to the Brooklyn District Attorney.

Brooklyn State Senate Races

State Senate District 20

Neighborhoods: Crown Heights, Brownsville, parts of Sunset Park and Gowanus
Incumbent: Jesse Hamilton (Independant)
Challenger: Zellnor Myrie (Democrat)

Former Independent Democratic Conference Jesse Hamilton lost the Democratic primary in September, but his name remains on the ballot as an independent candidate and he's continued to host rallies. Zellnor Myrie, a young progressive and political newcomer, is expected to win, but supporters are troubled by Hamilton's last minute bid for the seat.

State Senate District 22

Neighborhood: Bay Ridge
Incumbent: Martin Golden (Republican)
Challenger: Andrew Gounardes (Democrat)

Gounardes, an attorney who served as chief counsel to Borough President Eric Adams, is hoping to ride the progressive wave that marked September's primaries and unseat Golden, a former NYPD officer and the borough's only Republican state Senator who has served eight terms in the district.

Brooklyn State Assembly Races

State Assembly District 46

Neighborhoods: Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Coney Island
Candidates: Mathylde Frontus (Democrat) and Steven Saperstein (Republican)

Mathylde Frontus, the founder of the local grassroots non-profit Urban Neighborhood Services, and Saperstein, a former staffer for then-mayor Michael Bloomberg, have both presented themselves as the candidate to fight corruption. Both are fighting to claim a seat left vacant by Pamela Harris, who was recently put behind bars for pocketing nearly $60,000 in public funds meant to go to Hurricane Sandy relief and a nonprofit for children.
