If you spend any time on Church on the east side of Coney Island Avenue, then consider volunteering some time this Saturday to help clean it up. The Church Avenue Business Improvement District is hosting a graffiti removal day on Saturday, July 23 from 9am to noon starting at E. 17th Street and Church Ave., followed by a volunteer party behind Flatbush Reformed Church, sponsored by ConEd and National Grid.
BID Executive Director Lauren Elvers Collins says some of the hard work has already been done:
The hard work of our interns, Nivine and Sara, has already started paying off and we’ve been able to get the city to remove some of the more stubborn graffiti over the past week. As a result, on Saturday, we’re going to be able to also remove fliers from lampposts and buildings and hopefully obtain mulch to protect Church Avenue’s trees. Overall, a major effort that should really improve the look of Church Ave.!
