Councilmember Brad Lander Welcomes Youthmarket

Now officially opened by Brad Lander, the Youthmarket, on the Windsor Terrace Library plaza at E. 5 and Ft. Hamilton Parkway, will sell  local produce every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and offer samples of healthy food cooked up on the spot by the 5 Teen Chefs.  CM Lander introduced them and also thanked the people who made the Youthmarket a reality: Jessica Turner, his former Kensington liaison, who unearthed the community's petitions for a greenmarket filed several years ago with former CM Bill de Blasio, and Olivia Blanchflower of GrowNYC, the Youthmarket's main sponsor.

Last night's Teen Chef Battle winners, Kevin and Olivia, made a mozzarella and red pepper sandwich topped by an orange-zest flavored pesto; tiny round Sardinian pasta (supplied by Brancaccio's Food Shop) with raisins; and a tiramisu.  NY 1 was there at 8 a.m. to interview the chefs. Its coverage will start running this afternoon around 2:30. Lots of neighbors showed up as well.
