The New York Times has a nice profile of the Cynthia King Dance Studio in Windsor Terrace. Opened by the former dancer in 2002, King feels it is a space where children and adults can gain a sense of order through the rules of dance.
Her students may not become professional dancers, she said, but they’ll know to stand up straight in a job interview.
“Life can be chaotic for kids in the city,” Ms. King said. “It’s overcrowded; it’s fast. When you get to the dance class, when you get to the barre, it’s order, and everything else is gone.”
A variety of classes are offered, including ballet, contemporary dance, tap, dance exercise, and break dancing. Courses are available for children and adults, starting at $95 a month for one weekly class, or $18 for an adult drop-in class.
