Hi everyone! Derby Fit starts Saturday, June 1! Registration is open and ends on May 24th. Derby Fit is a fun and challenging total-body workout for skaters of all levels based on drills adapted from the sport of roller derby. A typical Derby Fit class consists of 10-15 minutes of jogging and dynamic movement to warm up, followed by land drills to build the muscles used in skating. Then skates are put on for 1 – 1.5 hours of skating drills. All drills are non-contact and focus on skating fundamentals and cardio endurance. No skating skills required, but you do need to be able to get around the track without holding onto anything. Derby Fit skaters can expect to build strength, get fit and have a great time doing it! The classes are taught by Ariel Assault, former skater and current Director of Coaching for the Gotham Girls Roller Derby. All classes are to be held on Saturday mornings from 9-11am in the ball field at Greenwood Playground. Make-ups due to rain or other cancelations will be held the next day, on Sunday from 9 – 11am. You will be notified of cancelations by 7:30am the day of class at the latest. Visit our website for more details on where to get your gear and how to register. Please email me (Shana) at derbyfit.greenwood@gmail.com for any questions and/or concerns. Shana Cooper-Urbas Derby Fit Administrator Friends of Greenwood Playground
