Digging Out

Digging Out

Yes indeed. People are out shoveling.

On Dahill Road, which Sanitation cleared, people are digging out their cars. On Church Avenue, they are chipping away at the ice patches and snow embankments in front of their stores.

People are also out walking, but narrow foot ruts hinder their steps through the packed down snowbanks at corners. At least one store per block on Church from Story Street to Ocean Parkway has a store flaunting NYC rules that it clear the snow from the sidewalk in front of its store. (Not a tiny foot-wide path, but the entire sidewalk.) Groups of men are walking around with shovels on their shoulders who would gladly help.

Cars and trucks are moving along Church, but many cars still remain snowbound. A bicycle stands marooned, chained to its lamppost, perhaps to rot. The side streets off Church are still snow-covered. I looked for the B 35 or 67. Didn’t see any.
