The spot on the corner of 8th and Prospect Avenues has been under construction for a while--a couple of months ago, a man working on it said it was going to be an Italian restaurant. He also said it would be open by the beginning of September, so who knows.
But Here's Park Slope noticed a sign has gone up outside and has a peek inside at the progress, so it looks like Giovanni's Brooklyn Eats will be opening, well, eventually. I'll take that sign as a good sign.
The bad background isn't so appetizing, however. A couple of stop work orders has extended the length of this project, and the reason is not so neighborly. Earlier this year IMBY noticed on the Department of Building paperwork that a mother in an apartment above the restaurant called 311 to complain about workers smoking on the job. The smoke was coming into her apartment, she had a baby, she was concerned and reported it, and it turned out they didn't have their paperwork in order. Everything seems to have been on the up and up since.
Let's hope all that's in the past, and, more importantly, that they make some good pasta. If you hear any more about an opening date, let us know.
