Green-Wood Historic Fund Honors Pete Hamill
Neighborhood tabloid journalists have raised spirited debate here in the past, so I'm sure you'll be interested to know that the Green-Wood Historic Fund is presenting the DeWitt Clinton Award for Excellence to Pete Hamill.
Local author Hamill has more than 50 years of experience in the newspaper business. He has served as editor of the New York Post and editor in chief of the New York Daily News and has written for the Village Voice and New York Newsday. He is the author of 21 books, including the novel Tabloid City, published this year. Hamill has written fondly and frequently about Green-Wood and has described it as “one of the great urban glades.”
The award will be presented at Green-Wood's fourth annual benefit on Thursday, September 15 from 5:30-8pm. Proceeds will support Green-Wood’s preservation projects, community outreach events, and educational programs.
The benefit will feature cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, live music, the award presentation, and 15-minute trolley excursions around Green-Wood throughout the evening led by Green-Wood’s historian. The Artful Conspirators, a Brooklyn-based collective of theater artists, will also be on-hand for some impromptu performances throughout the event.
