While the Mayor and his commissioners were dithering this weekend about whether the snow storm was truly a blizzard, a report in yesterday’s Village Voice’s Running Sacred column, suggests the 66th quietly declared its own snow emergency, viz:
“•• We hear that cops in Brooklyn's 66th Precinct are giving tickets for cars left in crosswalks."
And while we’re thinking about the 66th and slipping and sliding into the final holiday blow-out, here’s a shout-out to the officers of the 66th in appreciation of all the things they’re doing right: They keep this neighborhood safe and secure and appear to be pretty well-informed about what happens here. (It certainly helps, however, if you keep them up-to-date.) Of course (Paddy), it’s not crime-free, but life here is comparatively quiet. There is no mugger gauntlet attending your exit from the subway every evening, as happens in other (nearby) precincts.
And a tremendous thanks to Deputy Inspector John Sprague, who arranged for Kensington to get the weekly felony crime report now posted regularly in The Kensington Prospect, and other local blogs. He heard the vocal local residents who insisted upon Kensington having a “crime blotter” that would keep it current about crime events here.
It was C.O. Sprague who authorized releasing this data, assigning staff to work on it, and Lt. Selleck who greased the wheels to make it happen. The data comes courtesy of Patrol Officers Ruiz and Spurrell in the CompStat unit, who put the Kensington figures together each week and email them out for publication.
So HAPPY NEW YEAR 66th and all the best wishes for 2011. Hope you all have a care-less New Year.
