Help Paint a Mural Next Tuesday

Here's an exclusive sneak peek at the mural that's going up at 338 East 5th Street at Church Avenue, on the side of Connie's Cafe! The Groundswell Community Mural Project is partnering with the NYC Department of Transportation’s Office of Safety Education and its Urban Art Program to create a mural at the location of a dangerous intersection in Kensington:

Thirteen young people will complete the mural through Groundswell’s Summer Leadership Institute. The mural design highlights how we can all share the streets, in one of New York City’s most diverse zip codes.

The lead artists on this project are Yana Dimitrova and Adam Kidder.

Painting starts this week, and the mural will be completed throughout the month. Next week, on Tuesday, August 9, the whole community is invited help paint. Volunteers are welcome to join the crew from 11am to 2pm at the mural site.

The mural will be dedicated on Thursday, August 25 at 11am with a public celebration.
