Honoring Veterans Day

A replica of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington DC is in NYC at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum through November 20, and the Daily News caught up with a local veteran as he visited recently. Neighbor George Ryan, who served in Vietnam as a sergeant with G Battery of the 65th Artillery, explains how he realized he'd suffered with post-traumatic stress long after returning from the war, and discusses a friend whose name he finds on the wall.

George, who is an accomplished photographer, has been profiled in the News before. He's managed to channel some of his experiences in war through his art, and has had several exhibitions in the city. We hear he doesn't own a computer, so if you see him, or any other veterans today, be sure to thank him for his service--and ask him about his photographs.

Thanks to all the veterans, active duty military, and their families, for your service and sacrifice. We know there are several in this pocket of Brooklyn--if you'd like to note anyone in particular, please do so in the comments.
