Imagining Coney Island Avenue

Imagining Coney Island Avenue

Last night's meeting that was organized by Pratt Community center and Church Avenue BID to look at what could be improved on the Coney Island Avenue (between the Park and Cortelyou) was well attended, if not necessarily representative of how diverse our community is. It consisted mostly of a presentation of a survey done by Pratt graduate students of the area last October. There was much discussion on how this assessment was done, as well as certain shortcomings noted. I will try to get a copy of the presentation to post on the blog so we can have a discussion on this blog too.

I think that Coney Island Avenue, being the only commercial strip for much of Kensington other than a bit of Church Avenue this side of Ocean Parkway, has wonderful potential to be a place to shop, eat, stroll, not just have your car washed (or fixed), not that we don't need that too. It would be nice to be able to walk/bike/drive along it, or cross it, without risking one's life. And it could be a place that brings Kensington and Ditmas Park/Victorian Flatbush neighborhoods and communities together, rather than keeping them apart.

Will update when I get more info.
