To honor jazz musician Bob Bowen, who died August 27 after a hit and run truck struck him while biking, Danny Kessler, the music/poetry guru at the E. 4th Street Community Garden, is hosting another Sunday afternoon event there: a jazz concert by 4 bands on October 17. Bowen loved the garden; played music there regularly; and often while his band members soloed, he'd make drawings of it.
Starting at 1:30 the concert will feature SLOG with Brian Drye, Greg Joseph, Khabu Young, and Bruce Williamson. At 2:15 Ohad Talmor will play; at 3, the Jacob Garotchik and Ben Gerstein Duo; at 3:45 Vincent Sperrazza takes over; and finally at 4:30 the Roy Nathanson Conduction will wind up the afternoon around 5 p.m.
