Kensington/Boro Park Tops List of Safest Brooklyn Neighborhoods
In a "Crime & Safety" report issued by DNA/Info and detailed in AM/NY, Kensington/Boro Park ranks at the top of its list of the 5 safest Brooklyn neighborhoods and is considered the third safest neighborhood in the entire city.

According to the report, which used 2009/10 NYPD CompStat figures and 2010 Census figures:
* Murders, rapes and robberies are on the rise citywide.....murder and rape both jumped nearly 14%; robberies inched up more than 4%.
* Although the overall crime rate dipped by 1.5% from 2009 to 2010, murders increased for the first time in decades, by 13.8%.
* Robberies climbed by 4.5%.
* Rapes spiked by 13.9%, with the biggest increase in Harlem.
* Felony assaults edged up by 1%.
According to the 66th Precinct Comp Stat reports (PDF), major crime in the Precinct, which covers Kensington and Boro Park, has decreased over the years. Major crimes dropped about 32% in 2010 versus 2001--one example, in 2001, there were 445 recorded cases of grand larceny auto, and in 2010 there were 135.
