Now that summer's in full swing, it might seem that you've missed all the deadlines for kids' summer camps, but here's one that's local, starts next week, and still has spaces available:
Starting Monday, July 11 and continuing for 5 weeks through Friday, August 19, the Brooklyn Art and Learning Lab (BALL) at Jen’s Art Place will offer full and partial week drop-in/drop-off hours for children ages 5 to 12 (younger children will be considered when accompanied by a caregiver). Hours are Monday through Friday, 10:00am to 12:30pm. Led by Jen Hersh, an art historian, painter, and museum educator, and conveniently located two short blocks from 15th Street/Prospect Park F Train station in Windsor Terrace, BALL offers an inexpensive alternative to summer camp with a casual, constructive setting for children who may be uncomfortable in larger groups.
Each week we will explore a different theme through art and science activities. During the week of July 11, for example, animals, habitats, and camouflage will be studied using masks, puppets, sculpture, and painting.

A fee of $20 ($8 an hour) for the morning (a discount of $18 for morning, if reserved in advance) covers all materials. This is an ideal environment for sensitive children. Space is limited. For more information, check out BALL at www.jensartplace.org or contact Jen Hersh at 718-499-1304 or jen@jensartplace.org or drop in any time between 10am and 12:30pm from Wednesday, July 6 through Friday, July 8 to meet Jen and see the Brooklyn Art and Learning Lab and try an activity or two.
