If you thought getting fruits and vegetables in a CSA was neat, check out this info for the KWT Meat and Poultry CSA, which currently has some openings:
What is a meat CSA? It is a cooperative way to buy local grass fed, organic and humanely raised beef, poultry, pork and other meats from local farmers and have it delivered to your neighborhood monthly. It is a cheaper alternative to buying organic meat at Fairway AND it supports local upstate Farmers.
"We do our best to ensure that the products we offer are humanely raised, slaughtered, and lead as natural a life as possible. We are also treading a line between supporting regional farms, and getting as close to organic as we can. We want to support our neighbors when we can, and promote the 'best farming' practices we follow here on the farm."

How does this cooperative work? Each month you may or may not order from the Farm's website. The farm is also part of a cooperative so products that may or may not be available include home made cheeses, free range eggs, pasture raised beef and pork, home made sausage, bread etc. You only order what you want, when you want. The farmer drops off the meat once per month at a designated location in the neighborhood. To be a member of the cooperative you must agree to work approximately one shift per year (2 hours on either a Saturday or Thursday) to help to distribute the orders. Unlike a fruit and vegetable CSA, you do have choice of cut, quantity and when to order. Like a fruit and vegetable CSA, you do need to volunteer approximately one shift per year.
"Our beef are 100% grass fed and finished, as are all other beef farms we carry. Once you feed grain, the % of CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid - the cancer preventer) drops by half, though the animals will grow larger. We never feed grain to our animals - which is why many of our cuts are smaller. Our pork is corn and soy fed, and has access to a large pasture including fields and woods."
