Lucky Day for B61 Bus Rider

Lucky Day for B61 Bus Rider

Neighbor Maureen Rice was running all over Brooklyn one day, taking three buses (including the B61, recently named the worst) to visit her mother and do some Christmas shopping. But the Daily News explains that when she exited the B61 driven by Reuben Cornick, she left behind her purse, which contained $2,300 in cash:

He wasn’t supposed to work, but got called in to pick up a shift.

“She was double lucky that day,” said Cornick. “Everyone got off the bus right after she did. After the last person got off, I turned around...I don’t trust the mirrors. And I saw the pocketbook under the seat on the floor.”

Maureen was reunited with her bag, thanks to the kind driver, and some others who managed to help her track him down.

The MTA has an extensive lost and found system--which often includes some surprising items. If you lose something on a bus and the driver finds it, the protocol is for the item to be stored at the bus depot before it is sent to the MTA NYC Transit Lost Property Unit. You should call 888-692-8287 to see if your lost item was turned in.
