McGovern-Weir Closer to Becoming Green-Wood Visitors Center
The beautiful, if disheveled, McGovern-Weir Florist on 5th Ave and 25th Street was listed for sale last fall, after over 130 years in business. This summer, the Times discovered Green-Wood Cemetery was working on buying it, and earlier this month Brownstoner noted that the City Council had approved the purchase. Now the Brooklyn Daily says that the historic cemetery is about to close the deal, which will turn the building into a museum and visitors center.
Hopefully the investment (Brownstoner says it was listed for $1.5M), plus the renovations, pay off in the long run. It's a great building, and I'm sure a lot of neighbors--and visitors from out of town--will be interested in checking it out.
