Meet the Guys Who Are Walking You Home

Meet the Guys Who Are Walking You Home

Neighbors have been stepping up to help each other after months of attacks have made women nervous about walking home alone at night. In addition to Safe Walk and RightRides, Jay Ruiz of Prospect Heights has offered his Brooklyn Bike Patrol service in our area, while neighbor Tim Malloy of Malloy Security has guys waiting at the Fort Hamilton subway station every night to escort women home.

The Daily News caught up with both of these groups, and one volunteer captured the mood and community very well:

One of Malloy's volunteers, Tim Foley, 49, agreed that some of the women are "caught off guard at first" when they emerge from the F station to find a half-dozen men standing there.

"Then they're very grateful," Foley said. "We're guys from the neighborhood doing the right thing. It's about community, people standing up."

If you'd like to help out, K9WaTch is still looking for volunteers. You can find more info at their website.
