Just two weeks in, and the Youthmarket continues to get more coverage around the media circuit. The Daily News stopped by this week to chat with the students who run the produce stand on Fort Hamilton Parkway, where Brooklyn Technical High School's Albertha Ladina explained one reason why she got involved with the project:
The 16-year-old athlete — she's a member of the swimming and double-dutch teams — saw how fellow students weren't eating right.
"In school, we have a lot of candy machines and Snapple machines, and school lunches aren't healthy," says the Brighton Beach teen. "Since we're busy kids, we don't think about the food we eat. We grab for the nearest and cheapest snack that's available."
The Youthmarket continues on Saturdays from 9am to 3pm through September.
