MTA to Shut Down Lines for Construction

The MTA plans to change the way it does construction by completely shutting down segments of individual subway lines for consecutive weeknights. From the Daily News:

That would allow the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to get many projects and tasks done at once rather than piecemeal throughout the year. It’s a worthwhile tradeoff, one transit source familiar with the plan said.

“For a few nights, you won’t have service on a segment of a line but contrast that with work being done over far more nights and weekends with all the service diversions and train slowdowns.”

It sounds like they wouldn't try this on lines out by us (yet), but initially just in Manhattan below 42nd St, where it's not too long of a walk to an alternate subway line. NY1 reports that the first line impacted will be the Lexington Avenue 4, 5, and 6 trains, suspended from Grand Central to Atlantic Avenue from January 9 to 13.

We're familiar with construction interrupting our lines. So would you rather have it all done at once and have to suffer through a week of nights without the line you use, or do you prefer dealing with the ongoing weekend work that they do now?
