Despite a recent crackdown by police on illegal trapping and eating of wild animals in Prospect Park, neighbors seem to think it's less about people looking for food, and more about people being sadistic jerks. who say they've seen some nasty stuff:
“Just the other day, I saw three guys killing turtles,” said Bruna Weekes, 32, a Windsor Terrace resident who frequently walks her dog through the park. “They were picking them out of the lake, and then smashing them on the ground. We said something and they didn’t stop.”
That's so infuriating! I'm sure it's tough to patrol a 585-acre space, but hopefully they'll step up enforcement around key areas--though it might help if people who see things report them, so park employees know where to watch. Has anyone else seen things like this happening in the park?
