Paid Sick Leave Speak Out and Petition

A group of Brooklyn parents have organized a Speak Out for October 16 to support the New York City Paid Sick Time Act, with the support of A Better Balance and the New York Paid Sick Leave Coalition:

1.3 million New Yorkers—and more than 50% of all New York City public school parents—don't have a single day of paid sick leave for themselves or to care for a sick child...but we're about to change that. The New York City Paid Sick Leave Act will give everyone 5 to 9 accrued paid sick days (depending on the size of the company), and parents will be able to use the days to care for a sick child. It has the support of 80% of New Yorkers, and it had a veto-proof majority of votes on City Council. However, last year the vote was blocked. We need to send a message that the bill needs to come to a vote, now.

It's time to speak out! Join other families to let the New York City Council know that paid sick time is critical to the health of workers and children.

Bring your children for arts and crafts (help your kid make their first protest poster!!), facepainting, balloon animals, a SPEAK-OUT, and a performance by SLAVIC SOUL PARTY!

There is also an online petition you can sign to support the bill and its movement through City Council, which you can sign here.
