Parker Resolution Mourning "Drip"

NY State Senator Parker has introduced a resolution mourning the tragic death of neighbor Jake:

S R4899 RESO TEXT 2009 LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the premature death of 18-year-old Jake McDonough, artist and resident of Kensington, Brooklyn WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great State of New York; and WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is deeply moved to inscribe upon its records this remembrance for Jake McDonough, a young man of incredible perseverance whose fortitude and optimism were greater than any personal hardship he faced; and WHEREAS, Only 18 years old, Jake McDonough, best known as "Drip", the son of Professor Laraine McDonough of Brooklyn College, was a successful graffiti artist who sold his work in SoHo; and WHEREAS, On April 14, 2010, Jake McDonough was riding his bicycle in Brooklyn when he was struck by a van that ran a red light and was pronounced dead at the scene; a memorial service was held on Saturday, April 24, at 5Pointz, a location that was meaningful to Jake McDonough; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Jake McDonough is survived by his mother, Laraine and her husband, Denny; and WHEREAS, A friend recalled Jake McDonough as being "one of the most, if not the most, unique, talented and dedicated people I have ever known..."; and RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to mourn the premature death of 18-year-old Jake McDonough, artist and resident of Kensington, Brooklyn; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to the family of Jake McDonough.
