Windsor Terrace resident Randi Lass is spearheading a campaign for the neighborhood to win funding for a dog park through the PetSafe Bark For Your Park contest. People have been trying to install a fenced-in dog park in WT for a while, though there has been some opposition. For this contest, though, she has her sights set on a space that's convenient to several neighborhoods: An area in the Parade Grounds, near the tennis center and the police precinct. Still, they would first have to win the contest, then secure approvals, planning, construction, and volunteers before a dog run would be built.
This site fulfills the criteria for an ideal dog park: There are minimal residential buildings or businesses around the park perimeter, it is already subject to noise from the heavy car, foot & bicycle traffic, aside from the recreational ball fields & tennis center, people seeking to enjoy peaceful green space because of location, lack of safety, & state of disrepair do not often use the park. It could benefit from the care & upkeep of a concerned citizen group. Most importantly, a dog run can bolster safety inside the Parade Grounds.
It seems like a good idea--since the off-leash hours in parts of Prospect Park are restricted to 9pm-1am and 5am-9am, this would give people a place to let their dogs run around during the day.
The contest will award one community $100,000 to build a dog park. Here's how to vote:
We will be judged based on the enthusiasm & dedication of our community. We have until June 1 to express it & get us through to semifinals. Visit our page at:
