Congratulations to PS 154, which ranks in first place among Brooklyn public schools based on 2011 NY State Math and English Language Arts (ELA) tests.
The School Boards, an online forum for parents with kids in school, uses the information released by the Department of Education to create the list of top schools in the city. PS 154 ranks at #14 in the city for composite scores, #6 for ELA scores, #27 for Math scores, and is the top school in Brooklyn.
While this is great news, the school will face a challenge in keeping up those standards for the 2011-12 school year. PS 154 was dealt a 3% budget cut for the coming year, and has had to eliminate a 2nd grade class. It's hard to find a bright side, but the school hopes that the now-open classroom will provide an opportunity to bring back the library. If you'd like to help with that process, email parent coordinator Diana Plunkett at dplunkett@schools.nyc.gov.
