Congratulations to PS 230, which has been awarded one of 29 grants from GrowNYC and the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City!
According to the Daily News, GrowNYC reports there are currently 300 gardens at the city's approximately 1,600 schools.
News from PS 230 says that the gardening season is already in full swing:
Let’s hope that our April 1st showers will bring flowers, vegetables and herbs in our May PS 230 gardens. When the elevator project is complete (June?), additional garden beds will be built on the Dahill Street side of the school. We all look forward to eating food items prepared with school-grown products at the School Fair on Sunday, June 5th!
The grants will be awarded twice a year as part of Grow to Learn, a citywide school gardening program started last year by GrowNYC and the Mayor's Fund, reports the News. Bank of America is funding the first three grant cycles.
