Public Hearing on 2011 Blizzard in Marine Park Tonight
For those of you who weren't able to make it to any of the City Council public hearings on the 2011 Blizzard cleanup and want to brave the current snowy conditions, tonight is your last chance to weigh in - and it's relatively close to home: 6pm @ Marine Park Intermediate School 278, 1925 Stuart Street in Brooklyn.
And for a little context, today's NY Times has a piece about Queens Councilman Daniel J. Halloran's accusations of a sanitation slowdown. He's new on the City Council and is kind of an aberration for this city - a Tea Party-backed Republican Councilperson. He's been flying relatively below the radar until now, but we heard him railing at a hearing earlier last year against a proposal to force all city businesses to provide paid sick days for all employees. He's on the Committee on Fire and Criminal Justice Services, one of the committees called for tonight's meeting, so you should be able to check him out in person. He also happens to be on the Subcommittee on Landmarks, Public Siting and Maritime Uses, which is of particular importance to this area.
