Revitalize Church?

Revitalize Church?

A grumbling post over on the Brooklynian:

The commercial strip on Church Avenue between McDonald & Ocean Parkway is in need of being revitilized. Why isn't the community board or district doing anything to add new stores to this poorly served neighborhood?

Where is Starbucks, Connecticut Muffin, a Gourment market, decent restaurants, bars. Do we really need all those 99 cents stores and 8 nail salons? 6 chinese restaurants??? Not one coffee shop or restaurant is to be found on the section of depressing shops.

Well, some neighbors would surely disagree it is that depressing. Soho Cafe & Grill looks like will open soon. No Connecticut Muffin, true, but does one really need Starbucks? I actually think that neighborhood could support higher end stores, and it is much more dense than Ditmas Park. What with all the apartment buildings along Ocean. I've been told by a number of folks that part of the reason for having what we have is having most of the commercial properties controlled basically by one landlord. Anyone with Property Shark access want to check this out?

And while we're on the topic - which of the nail salons would you recommend?
