Sanitation Pickups and Tree Mulching

Sanitation Pickups and Tree Mulching

Sanitation pickups are expected to resume tomorrow:

The New York City Department of Sanitation announced today that it will resume limited garbage collection around the city on Monday, January 3rd.

Those who normally receive Monday collections should place all of their garbage bags, pails and containers out at curbside on Sunday night.  The Department will not be collecting recyclables until further notice.  Residents can also place out their discarded Christmas trees for pickup.

Commissioner John J. Doherty asks that residents clear a path for Sanitation crews to collect the garbage. If bags and pails are buried under the snow, they should be dug out so crews can have access to them.

What to do with the tree? You can put it out with regular garbage, or consider mulching it. You bring the tree free of all decorations over to the Prospect Park Circle (Parkside & PPSW) next weekend January 8 and 9, 2011 between 10am and 2pm, and bring home a bag of mulch for your garden or to make a winter bed for a new street tree. Parks Department will be providing some biodegradable bags if you wish to take some free mulch home, but you may as well bring your own.
