Shop Local: Just Kate's for Toys and Gifts

Don't be fooled by the sign boasting "watches, pens, perfumes, jewelry, and accessories." This unassuming store on Prospect Park West is actually bursting with toys, games, and gifts.

Local owners (they live in Kensington, but close enough) Chano and his daughter Yasmin opened Just Kate's Gift Shop two years ago, replacing a cell phone store.  The name 'Kate' is actually Yasmin's daughter's name.

They have a nice selection of toys: Melissa & Doug, hot wheels, various games, stuffed animals, balls, and other park toys. And a random assortment of school backpacks, hats, sunglasses, umbrellas, and some jewelry thrown in for good measure.

I was happy that they offer helium balloons -- $.99 each for regular party balloons and also an assortment of specialty balloons. I just ordered a dozen for my son's birthday party this weekend, saving me a trip to Party City!
