A disheartening review is in from Effed in Park Slope, who were invited on a tour of The Pavilion Theater by its new owners. They found that while it is definitely under construction, these new owners don't seem like they're going about things the right way. Highlights include:
* "The place looked like even more of a shithole than usual, which is understandable because they’re under renovation except… why are they open in the midst of this mess?"
* The tour interrupted an in-progress movie screening (they turned the lights on in the middle of the coming attractions, but still).

* Only four theaters are getting new seats--the others had been replaced recently, the owners swear.
* New carpeting, new curtains, maybe a new cafe operator, and they're going to cure kids cancer.

There's even more (smoke detectors? sprinklers? Bueller?), and it's all just kind of deflating. Dear new owners: We don't need much, just cleanliness and things that work. And yeah, that includes smoke detectors.
