As of today, smoking is prohibited in:
* All New York City parks except median strips
* Beaches and boardwalks
* Public golf courses
* Sports stadia grounds
* Pedestrian plazas such as those at Times Square and Herald Square.
* Smoking continues to be prohibited in playgrounds, pools and inside stadia
If caught, you face a $50 fine. How well the law is monitored remains to be seen, but the Department of Parks and Recreation is counting on regular folks to do most of the enforcement, asking those they see smoking in the restricted areas to stop. Which I can only see going really, really well.
