With all the negative news happening in the area lately, it's nice to see something positive about the South Slope area, which Crain's suggests is becoming much more lively.
They point to new restaurants like Lot 2 and Giuseppina's, as well as the forthcoming Greenwood beer garden, as helping pave the way for new ventures and new neighbors. The lower cost of rents and real estate, compared to Park Slope anyway, is another big draw, of course. But so is the sense of community:
“I think there's a good soul here, and that's what you build around,” said [Ben] Jones, who opened the nearby Southside Coffee and is a co-owner of Lot 2.
The quick reaction and organization of the group Safe Slope following the attacks reflects that tight-knit community, as does the already-established Concerned Citizens of Greenwood Heights.
So do you think South Slope is the next big thing? Or is the distance from the subway going to keep people away for the time being?
