South Slope Take Back the Night March

Reacting to recent attacks on women in the area--including a seventh attack on Saturday night--a new group has gotten together to empower and protect the community.

Safe Slope has organized a Take Back the Night March on Wednesday, September 14. Join the group at the Prospect Avenue subway station on 4th Avenue at 17th Street at 8pm. As of posting, 76 people have already signed up on the Facebook event page to attend the march.

The most recent attack, which police haven't yet determined to be connected to the six previous attacks, took place on Saturday just after midnight as a woman walked on 7th Avenue near 17th Street. The victim was grabbed from behind, but the suspect fled when she started to scream. 72nd Precinct Deputy Inspector Jesus Pintos tells the Brooklyn Paper that the woman then chased the suspect and saw him jump into a beige SUV near 17th Street.
