The economy has made affording food difficult for many more Brooklyn families in the past few years. As a result, food banks around the city have had trouble keeping up with the demand. Next month's “Stamp Out Hunger!” is an effort by the National Association of Letter Carriers to help food programs stay stocked.
In Brooklyn during the week of May 9-14, you can bring non-perishable items like canned meats, fish, soup, vegetables; bottled juice, pasta, cereal, and rice that do not require refrigeration to your local post office. These donations will then be repacked by the Food Bank for New York City and distributed to community and emergency food programs.
Nearby post offices include:
Prospect Park West: 225 Prospect Park West between 16th St/Windsor Pl
Kensington: 419 McDonald Ave between Church/Albemarle
