Suspect, But Apparently Not Information, Wanted
Suspect, But Apparently Not Information, Wanted
If you don't have the suspect's name and phone number, don't bother calling Crime Stoppers.
That's what neighbor Donya Dickerson now feels, after she called the police tip line with information about the serial rape suspect and was hung up on by the officer who answered. She told the story to F'd in Park Slope the other day, about how she called the hotline to describe the encounter she had with the suspect, who flashed her on a Manhattan-bound F train last week.
Police, who have been criticized by neighbors for not doing enough to protect the area, tell the Brooklyn Paper that this phone call was just a misunderstanding. The "wanted" fliers the NYPD posted around the area ask people with information to call the Brooklyn Special Victims Squad, not Crime Stoppers. Even though the NYPD has given Crime Stoppers to the media as the resource the public should contact. So yeah, definitely a miscommunication somewhere.
So in the future, if you have information about this particular case, you're asked to call Brooklyn Special Victims Squad at 718-230-4415, not Crime Stoppers.
