Did the Pilgrims hold their first Thanksgiving feast mainly to give thanks to God or to thank the Indians for helping them learn how to plant corn? Some school textbooks have taught the latter view, but those who knew what the Pilgrims believed know that is utter nonsense. History does matter. It defines what the next generation thinks about our past.
