Walking down the west side of McDonald Ave between Albemarle and Church, it's impossible not to notice the gigantic pumpkin in front of one of the buildings. Started as a seed in Brooklyn and grown on land upstate, the 800-pound pumpkin was raised by the Zambito family, and the Brooklyn Daily has the details on how they managed to grow, and transport, such a huge gourd.
If you need more giant pumpkins in your life before Halloween, the New York Botanical Garden has the world's largest pumpkin on display through Sunday--and over the weekend, the biggest pumpkins will be carved, which might be worth the long trip to the Bronx to check out.
If you'd rather stay closer to home, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden doesn't have the biggest pumpkins this year, but their biggest family event, Ghouls & Gourds, is on Saturday, October 29 from 12-6pm. There are tons of fun activities, a costume parade, and a Book Barn that features children's book authors and illustrators.
