A lot of the talk this week on a neighborhood listserv has been pretty scatological, as residents raise concerns over the proper disposal of dog poop.
It's been a difficult year for public services, and sanitation is the one we might notice the most. In a largely residential area like Windsor Terrace, sometimes it's hard to find a public trash can. Then last year, the Department of Sanitation ended its regular pick-ups of trash on commercial strips, only emptying trash from public cans when trucks are out for residential runs. So even if you manage to find a can to deposit your doggie bag, the can might be filled to the brim.
This leads some people to drop their pet's waste into household cans as they pass by--which can lead to quite a mess (and stink) for the person who owns those cans.
All this is assuming people actually scoop the poop. I'm not sure how you go about convincing people to have some pride in their neighborhood by keeping it clean and being responsible dog owners, but clearly all the signs aren't working. Maybe the potential dog run could help?
