When They Might Be Giants' John Linnell and his family got priced out of Park Slope, they found a better bang for their buck in Windsor Terrace. The family lives in a three-bedroom, two-bathroom attached house that they did just a few renovations on. One part they barely touched was the beautiful back garden (complete with koi pond), which, as many neighbors have noticed this summer, attracts a wide variety of wildlife:
“The one thing that’s a bit of a pain is there’s a lot of animals,” Linnell says. “There’s a lot of raccoons and possums breeding in the back alley behind the property. The raccoons will actually come and knock these plants into the water. There are cats as well, and they’re all trying to eat the fish.”
These surprisingly rural-like problems seem to be a result of the house’s location, on a small sliver of land between Prospect Park and Green-Wood Cemetery. “It’s like the wilderness,” Linnell jokes, adding, “there are parrots living in the cemetery, breeding like crazy. You’ll see them come up here sometimes.”
My nephew, a big TMBG fan, will insist there's a "Birdhouse in Your Soul" joke there somewhere, I just know it.
Other fun facts: he has a darkroom in the basement and a painting of Ronald Regan in a kimono!
They Might Be Giants play at the Williamsburg Waterfront next Friday, July 29.
